Death Note

Death Note-fanfics incoming. Mainly L x Light-stuff.

A day off

It was really dark. A lonely white light shone from a computer monitor. Light Yagami, tall and handsome young man, was standing at the room’s entrance and tried to find the light switch. He pressed it with his fingers and room was suddenly filled by yellow light.

”AAAH!”

There was a man sitting on a chair in  front of the computer. The chair fell over and the man covered his eyes and rolled on the floor. Light rolled his eyes and stepped inside the room. He walked next to the man.

”Get up, L”, he said severely. ”You’ve been here for days. The case isn’t going anywhere. I’m ordering you to take a break!”

The man took his hands away from his face and faced Light’s gaze with his narrowed, dark grey eyes. He scrambled up and rubbed his spiky, black hair.

”You almost killed me, you know”, L moaned. For half seconds Light thought that L had actually found out that he was Kira, but then he continued:

”I admit, I’ve been in this room for days, but please notice that I haven’t even touched the light switch, so could you please be more gentle next time? Now I feel like my eyes are burning.”

”More reasons to go outside and see the sunlight”, Light answered.

”But”, L started ”I don’t like sunlight. It burns my skin you know. I have to put sunglasses and protect myself from sunstroke by using a cap. And I don’t like sunglasses nor caps.”

Light looked bored in his life. He sighed patiently. ”You can protect yourself by any means necessary.” He started walking towards the door.

”You. Me. Entrance hall. At three p.m.”, Light said and looked at L. The pale black-haired man sighed but it seemed like he had submitted to his fate.

”Ok, Light.”

L was at the entrance hall exactly at three p.m. Light was waiting him – the brown-haired boy was wearing a red long-sleeved shirt and jeans – L had a black hoodey, same jeans as always and a hood on. His eyes were barely seeing from the darkness of the hood, and he was watching Light with an exasperation in his eyes.

”There you are”, Light said cheerily. ”Let’s go.”

L jumped to a shining, brand new lamborghini. Light had won it  from some odd rich man at playing poker. He was extremely proud of it, and drove it with an enamored look in his hazel-brown eyes.

”So, L. Today we ain’t going to talk nothing about the Kira case. Just let your brains rest and have some fun, okay?”

”Yes, yes, Light-kun”, he answered.

They stopped in front of an ice cream kiosk. L putted the sun glasses to his head. Light bought himself a chocolate ice cream, and L bought three balls of a ranbow-colored ice cream and licked it with enjoyment. L was finished before Light even though he had two times bigger ice cream, and went back to the car.

”Damn, a nice car you have there!” the ice cream seller said with admiringly. ”Thanks”, Light answered and looked at his lamborghini proudly. L was already sitting in there.

”Next stop: bowling center”, Light said. ”Cool”, L said. ”I’ve always liked bowling.”

”I won”, L said. Light bumped his friend’s shoulder. ”Yes you did. But I didn’t lose to a bad one.” L gave a laugh. Light looked at his watch. ”It’s seven p.m.”, he stated. ”I think now it’s time to go to a pub.” L’s eyes widened. ”I don’t like drinking alcohol. I like when my head is clear.”

”In that case I will drink for you too, and you will drive us home.” L shook his shoulders and consented to Light’s wish.

The pub was called Silver pheseant. ”Strange name”, L stated when they entered. Silver pheseant was full of people, but there were a couple of seats left. Light and L walked to their chairs and took a seat.

”Bloody Mary for me, please”, Light ordered from the bartender. ”A very small liqueur, please”, L said. ”I thought you weren’t going to drink any alcohol”, Light commented. ”Don’t worry, I’m not taking anything else. It’s been seven years since the last time I drank alcohol”, L explained.

”How old are you?” Light asked. ”Twenty-five”, L answered. ”Why?”

”So last time you drank alcohol was when you were eighteen?”

”Yeah. It was birthday and I got some wine. It tasted awful. But I’ve heard that liqueur is sweet.”

The bartender brought their drinks and they tasted it. L nodded slowly. ”It’s okay I guess”, he said. Light rolled his eyes.

”Yo”, said a dude with a leather jacket sitting next to them. ”Why do you sit like that, kid? It’s bad for your knees.” L looked at him. ”If I sat on any other way, my detective skills would immediately be reduced roughly 40 percent”, he answered. Light recognized the exact words L had said to him when Light had mentioned his weird way of sitting.

”Right”, the stranger said with an abashed voice. ”But still, I’m a doctor you see, and I know that sitting like that will kill your knees.” L looked a bit sad. ”Thank you for advice, but there’s no way I could sit any other way.”

The guy with a leather jacket shook his shoulders. ”Well at least you’ve been warned”, he said. Then he stretched out his arm towards L.

”Hidetoshi”, he introduced himself. L shook hands with him. ”Ryusaki.” This name was his fake name that he used in every situation when a non-task force person asked his name. And the reason they used only first names was, that everybody were aware of Kira’s existance and weren’t willing to give their names anymore. Also Light shook hands with him and told his name.

”I can offer you guys the next round”, he said. ”Thank you very much”, Light said with brightening eyes. ”I’ve had enough for tonight, thank you”, L told him. ”But you only took one drink”, he stated. ”I know, but I’m supposed to drive.”

”Ah I see”, Hidetoshi said and he started talking with Light. L took out his phone and started playing Geometry Dash with it. He lowered the voices of the game and focused on it while Light and Hidetoshi chatted about their ways of life.

”Say, Ryusaki”, Hidetoshi said after about an hour of talking with Light ”Would you like to come to my reception? I really am worried about your kneed and your back.” L opened his mouth and shut it again. Light was nodding to him wildly and formed a word ’yes’ with his mouth.

”Fine… if it makes you happy, Light”, L said with a bored tone in his voice. ”I haven’t been at a doctor for a while.” Hidetoshi wrote down his number and the adres of the reception.

”Tomorrow? Two p.m.?”

”Okay.”

”Shouldn’t we go home now?” L asked. Light wasn’t really that drunk, but L didn’t let him drive. ”Oh c’mon”, he smiled. ”Let’s go to the Discohouse. There’s a party there every friday night, and this is a friday, right?” L sighed, but accepted his friend’s wish again. ”Okay then… But I’m not going to dance then.”

Discohouse was a big hall building, that was in the heart of Tokyo. The music was so loud that they could hear it already before stepping out of the car.

”I like silence, you know”, L said quietly. ”Shut up. Let’s go”, Light said. They went in, paid the entrance fee. Then they got in.

The noise was overwhelming, and the hall was full of dancing and partying people. ”I’ll be sitting there”, L said to light and pointed with his finger a sofa, that was on the edge of the hall. ”Okay”, Light answered. Then he disappeared to the pack of dancing people and became one of them. L sighed, and placed earplugs in his ears – there was an earplug dispenser next to him. Then he sat down in his own, weird way of sitting.

L was extremely bored. He watched twerking people blandly. He really hoped that he wouldn’t see Light doing that.

Suddenly Light appeared to him. ”Hey, Ryusaki”, he said loudly, so L could hear. L removed his earplugs and looked at him.

”Hi. Can we go now?” L asked. Light just laughed.

”Not yet. You know that girl over there has watched you the whole time. You should ask her for a dance.” L’s eyes widened. ”Don’t be ridiculous.”

”I’m not being ridiculous. C’mon, Ryusaki! Besides, the DJ is going to play some slow songs after midnight, and even you can make it.” L blinked and shook his head. ”No way.”

Then, out of nowhere, the girl Light was talking about, started walking towards them. ”Oh shit”, L stated. The girl was really beautiful, she had curly brown hair and blue eyes, and she walked straight to L. ”Hi there. Wanna dance?” Light couldn’t cover his triumphant smile. L came up with a shy smile. ”Okay then.”

The slow music started playing, just as Light had promised. L and the girl walked to the dance floor and along with many other pairs, started dancing very slowly and their moves were very relaxed. L had to straighten up his back, which was little bit painful, but he took it like a man. ”What’s your name?” the girl asked.

”Ryusaki. What’s yours?”

”I’m Zoe.” L’s thoughts ran like a lightning. ”In greek zoe means life or alive.”  Zoe looked him in the eyes with a slight amazement. ”Yes it does”, she said. ”I lived in Greece with my family when I was little.”

”I’ve never been there. It must’ve been an exciting place”, said L. Zoe nodded. ”It was. And you really should visit there, it’s a really warm and sunny place.”

”I don’t really enjoy the sunlight”, L said reluctantly. ”I’m more like a night person.” Zoe laughed a little. ”Oh really? You do look like a night person, got to admit.” They danced a while in silence.

”So, Zoe. What you do for living?” She blinked her big, blue eyes. ”I work for the government as a hacker.” L looked surprised. ”No kidding?”

”I’m an honest person.”

”Wow. That job must be exciting”, L said. He thought about his own job – catching and profiling murderers and other law breakers with the title of the best detective in the world.

”How about you?”

”Uh, I’m a detective. And I’m an honest person as well.” Zoe smiled. ”I believe you. And that sounds way more interesting than my job.”

It was 5 a.m, when L and Light were finally so tired that they decided to leave. ”Here’s my number”, Zoe said before they left. She gave L a little note, where she had written a number combination. ”Thanks.”

”Can I have yours?”

L narrowed his eyes. What if this girl, Zoe, was trying to hack the task force system? ”No, but I promise to call you”, he said. Zoe tilted her head. ”Okay, Mr. Mysterious. See you”, she said and then walked away.

Light didn’t quit asking L questions about his night with Zoe. ”She was really good-looking, you know! Almost as pretty as Misa”, Light estimated. L rolled his eyes.

”Why didn’t you give her your number?”

L was quiet for a while. ”She is a hacker. I can’t risk the task force’s information by giving her my number. if I want to meet her I will call her from a public phone.” Light sighed. ”So careful. But you might be right.”

They got to the task force and went in with an elevator. Everybody else were sleeping. ”Good night, L”, Light said and bumped him in the shoulder as good night’s wishes. ”Night, Light-kun”, L mumbled and walked slowly to his room.

L finally fell asleep in his sitting position, thinking about Zoe’s gorgeous hair, bright eyes and soft hands.
